Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray was full of praise for Marc Antoine Fortune after his first start for the Sky Blues in a 3-0 win over Shrewsbury Town.
Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “He’s an experienced footballer who has a great awareness of space and he’s immensely strong with his hips and his body.
“Big centre-halves think they can come crashing through him and they bounce off him. He can spin away and slide the fast players in as well. He can be a point of our attack and I am delighted that he scored a goal.”
His inclusion meant Armstrong was played in the No.10 role, which Mowbray believes suits him better than the lone striker role he has been playing for the majority of his time at the club.
“I think what’s important for me is he can still score goals from a slightly deeper position.
“And I believe, and I have been trying to tell him for weeks now, it’s probably his best position. Just because he’s fast doesn’t mean he has to play on shoulders and run in behind teams.
"He's very technical and as we saw numerous times he gets the ball, turns away from his marker and runs into space, so its something we'll look at and progress and hopefully, he will enjoy the role.
"It gives Marc Antoine an opportunity up top and Marcus Tudgay is another player who can give us a point of attack, so we’re trying to develop the team as we go along. It’s still a work in progress and very early in the season but the signs are OK.”
