Mowbray: It Was Deserved

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray felt that City's 2-1 win over Millwall was deserved.

The City boss told the Coventry Telegraph: “I think on the balance of play it was deserved.

“We played against ten men for an hour and I thought we did it well. We had four or five great opportunities to score in the first half and I thought we had total control until we got ourselves 2-1 up. It became a bit nervous then because we haven’t been winning but we saw it home.

“It’s been a tough few weeks for us all so it was important that we kept working hard, kept giving everything for the fans.

“I told the players that supporters need to know we’re still fighting for every point – particularly the loan players have to show that they care about this club, care about playing in a sky-blue shirt. And I thought they did that – we applied our talent to the game and took the points.

“We have been looking for the answers to our inability to stick the ball into the opposition net, despite dominating some of those games. I think that’s only the third time in the last 20-odd games that we’ve scored two goals in a game – in the first 20 games we did that 12 times so it suggests we have to score twice to win a football match because we’re not capable of keeping as many clean sheets as we need to.”
