Tony Mowbray urged Coventry City supporters to keep faith with the team..
Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph: “We had some fabulous times last year and I really enjoyed it.
“It was great to see the fans and club excited again. The fans have shown unconditional support for me. Hopefully they know that I did my best, did what I could.
“When I go to football clubs I try to buy in to the people on an emotional level. It’s very difficult because of the politics at this club and a difficult situation. I was employed by the owners of the football club and I have to show loyalty to them as well, but I always try to buy in to the loyalty of the supporters because they will be at a club long after me and the players have gone.
“They have had some difficult years but we had some good times last year and you can see they are just waiting to ignite.
“It’s an opportunity for someone to get the club right because it’s a top, top football club. “I can’t sit here and talk about the politics and what needs to happen to give it that chance. But I feel we got pretty close to igniting it and who knows where we could have taken it if we’d have got up last season, and what the crowds could have been at the Ricoh. But, sadly, we didn’t achieve it.
“Have I got a message for the fans? What I would say is keep faith with the team. I know the supporters have got issues with the ownership but my own belief is that you should always support your team.
“I do feel the this team needs, the young players in particular, to feel like they’re playing for a big club. We tried to build that mentality last year when we went to away grounds and let them know that we’re Coventry City and better than League One. And that comes from having a big support because the fans demand things from the players.”
