Coventry City keeper Joe Murphy said that he felt embarrassed with City's performance at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.
“I was embarrassed coming off the field to be honest,” Murphy to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner.
“The way Tranmere popped it about in the second half and the crowd got into it as well was disappointing.
“We haven’t really looked up for the fight in the last few weeks. As the gaffer has said, we have played teams who are down there fighting for their lives and if we don’t buck our ideas up we’ll be down there as well. So, for me, it was embarrassing.
“It was particularly annoying for me because I was going back to somewhere I have played before and where I wanted to get a result.
“It’s great getting praise when you are doing well but when you are under the cosh you have to battle and we just haven’t done that in the last two or three weeks.
“You can’t always play pretty football in this league and expect to win, you have to win ugly as well at times like we maybe did at Rotherham, but that’s about it. Tranmere dug in and hassled us and played the way we played at the start of the season.
“There are no excuses. We are lacking strikers and everyone can see that but it’s still not good enough. We kind of let the game pass us by and that just isn’t good enough. And I was embarrassed and just wanted to get off the pitch in the end.
“But we just dropped our heads during the game when we went behind which isn’t good enough. We need to look at ourselves. We’re going through a tricky period and hopefully we’ll come out the other side pretty quickly.
“We had good travelling support again and I am disappointed for them but it’s only us that can get us out of it.”
