Coventry City's under fire goal keeper Joe Murphy, along with some of his team mates, took time out yesterday to visit sick children at the Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Murphy became a father to Joseph six months ago and because of it the visit took on a whole new meaning pushing the club's on and off the field troubles into perspective.

The annual visit to hand out Christmas presents to the sick children made Murphy realise how lucky he and his partner Ellen and son Joseph are.

Murphy said to the CT, “I said to my girlfriend Ellen that it makes you realise how lucky we are because those kids are quite ill and even if they are not, many of them won’t be home for Christmas and to see their little faces light up when you are handing them presents is lovely and it is always good to do things like that.

“It makes you take a step back from what’s going on, especially on top of what happened with Gary Speed, so family life and your health are the most important things.”

Other members of the City squad went to the Children and Adolescent wards at Walsgrave Hospital.
