Former Coventry City midfielder Neil Wood has had to bring in FIFA to try and get his move to Atherstone Town sorted.
The former loanee from Manchester United needs a fax from his former club - FK Zeljeznicar of Sarajevo saying that he has been released in order to play. However, despite phone calls and emails, they have not confirmed to the FA, Wood's departure from the Bosnian club.
Wood who now works for the postal service, cannot play for Atherstone until international clearance has been received.
Atherstone boss Darren Fulford told the CT: “Neil is desperate to get his Adders’ career started.
“I feel really sorry for the lad as he’s done everything he can to get the problem straightened out but unfortunately FK Željeznicar are making it a misery for him by not faxing the FA to say he’s been released.
“There’s no money or anything like that outstanding. It’s just a matter of the club notifying the FA that Neil has returned to England and we have no outstanding issues.
“He’s done everything he can and after bringing the Professional Footballers Association into the picture, he’s now contacted FIFA in a bid to get things moving as he wants to play football again.
“I cannot believe it has taken so long to sort out the clearance and it’s still going on. “Neil is a class act and hopefully by the time the cold snap has relented he will be available.”
