Newcastle United are one of the Premier League clubs who are interested in Coventry City's soon to be out of contract Kieren Westwood.
However The Sunday Mirror has reported that Newcastle are only prepared to offer £500,000 for the 26 year old Irish international goalkeeper and if this is rejected they are prepared to gamble on getting him free in the summer after his contract has expired.
The January transfer window closes tonight at 11:00pm and if Westwood is still a Coventry City player, both Coventry and Westwood's former club Carlisle United will lose out on any transfer fee as the Cumbrian club had a sell on clause inserted when they sold him to City.
City boss Aidy Boothroyd had said that if Coventry should win promotion then Westwood would be worth £110m to the club.
