Coventry City manager Steven Pressley will use players who are not in his plans in his squad rather than placing them in a "bomb squad".
City ended up having to pay up the contracts of the likes of Gary McSheffrey, William Edjenguele, Chris Dunn and Steven Jennings after Steve Waggott brought in the system once used by clubs like Liverpool to force out players who were not part of the manager's plans or were on too much money. However, this season, Pressley has said there will not be a repeat and the players he does not want will still be part of the squad until such time that they find alternative employment.
Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Keith Perry: "I obviously cannot disclose exactly what has been discussed with each individual but I will say that all players are clear as to what to expect after the summer and those players not necessarily part of our plans going forward will remain involved with the first team until there comes a point where they may look to further their careers elsewhere.
“Some may be more involved than others going forward but we have had some very constructive discussions between myself, the players and development director Steve Waggott which means we can push on with our plans over the course of the summer and in the lead up to pre-season.”
