Shaun Jeffers, who is on loan at Cheltenham Town from Coventry, had no joy tonight as his Cheltenham side went out of the JP Trophy.
Jeffers played the whole of the game against Plymouth Argyle, managed by former Coventry City manager Peter Reid but they went down to a 2-0 defeat.
McLean opened the scoring in the tenth minute before a 35 yarder from Craig Noone, some 57 seconds in the second half gave the Pilgrims a place in the next round.
