The former defender/midfielder, who was bought by Chairman Ray Ranson and later sold to Celtic before being forced back down to England, has an ankle injury which will keep him out of the game.
Burnley are still waiting to hear how long Fox will actually be out for and Brian Laws told the official Burnley club website: "It's been hard to pin it down on the length of time he will be out because there was quite a bit of swelling.
"That has now gone and he is more mobile. Hopefully come the weekend we should have a clearer picture because the scan results will come through and give us an indication of how long he's going to be out.
"The supporters will have to bear with us until we can conclusively give the right diagnosis and the period of time he's going to be out."
