Hopes of signing Freddie Eastwood were today effectively ended when the deal hit a financial problem.
The Welsh international had been expected to sign today before flying off to Austria for pre-season training, but it is understood that Eastwood is holding out for the signing on fee promised to him when he joined Wolves from Southend.
With Eastwood demanding the full payment, City agreed to pay half that fee only for Wolves to refuse to pay the rest.
Said Ray Ranson to the CT: "We agreed term with Wolves and Chris met with Freddy last week to discuss personal terms. "We agreed what I would consider to be a very attractive four year contract but unfortunately, the deal collapsed because of money the player is legally entitled to under the terms of his contract at Wolves."
"We are searching high and low for a proven goalscorer in the Championship. and we believe we are still handily placed to add to the calibre of players we have brought in"
Clinton Morrison and Grzegorz Rasiak, whom City have already spoken to are two names, but they know that in order to attract decent support this season, they need a couple of proven strikers to fill the Arena seats.
