Chris Hussey is out for three months whilst Stephen O'Halloran is back in training and for the last two matches, Richard Wood (pictured below) has played in the position ahead of Martin Cranie.
Speaking to the CT, Boothroyd said:" I've talked about it with the staff but Richard has played two games at left back and we've kept two clean sheets so that says a lot about what he brings to that position.
"He's comfortable there and he gives us more height which is always a plus. You can have good little players but my dad told always told me that a good big 'un is better than a good little 'un.
"We'll see where we are in January because we've got a lot of games to play before then but, touch wood, it's all looking very good for us at the moment.
"Sammy Clingan's looking really strong and could be fit for the Christmas games while Ben Turner's coming along nicely as well and should be back mid to late January."
