Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has said there is nothing to report on the January transfer front and has responded to media speculation linked certain players with a move to Coventry City. He hinted that there may be new faces if the right players are available.
"There's no news at all," said Boothroyd to the CT: "we've had no offers and there are no outgoings."
"We're still working on it because we have always got to be looking to strengthen the squad but they've got to be the right players and the right characters. I think the fact that we're getting some of our big players back is probably more important than signing new ones."
"As with every other team, we've seen that when key players are missing we do have a problem from time to time. If we can get everyone fit and add one or two faces to create even more competition that will be really good for us, but there is no mad panic on."
"You can switch on the television and find out how many more seconds there are until the end of the window but I don't get drawn in by all that. It's all very exciting to watch but it's nonsense. It's not really a deadline for us because if you're not in the Premier League you can always make a case for bringing in 'emergency' loans outside the window."
"I think it is going to take a bit of time to get everything as we want it at the club and I would much prefer to do the business that needs to be done at the end of the season rather than worrying about what needs to be done now."
Boothroyd admitted he made an enquiry about Colchester United's left-back Marc Tierney but, as reported yesterday, he cooled his interest after Stephen O'Halloran impressed on his return to fitness.
When asked about other players linked to City, Boothroyd responded in forthright manner.
Newport County striker Craig Reid? "No."
Luton Town winger Andy Drury? "Don't know him, so no."
Northampton Town midfielder Michael Jacobs? "Played well against us in pre-season - a very good player but not the kind we need at the moment."
David Beckham? "No, we don't need the media circus. We're fine with the one we've got!"
