Ollie Norwood has apparently turned down a move to Championship outfit Barnsley leaving the door open for a possible move back to Coventry.
The Manchester United midfielder has turned down a contract with the Premier League club club as he wants to play regular competitive football.
Speaking to the club's website, Barnsley manager Keith Hill said, "We've done everything we could as a club, but Oliver wants to pursue another direction and we wish him all the best.
"Fortunately it has been a quick process and we haven't lost too much time. It's part and parcel of recruitment, some you win, some you lose. We've already moved on to other targets to add to our exciting new signings so far.
"I'm still positive and optimistic for future signings and looking forward to our pre-season training and the start of the new campaign."
Barnsley had agreed a compensation fee of £400,000 with Manchester United for the 21 year old midfielder who spent the last part of the season on loan at Coventry where he impressed the fans and the City boss Andy Thorn who is keen to sign Norwood.
