Nuneaton Borough have had talks with Ray Ranson and the City Board about forging closer links.
The move comes after former City Associate Director Ian Neale agreed to join the board of the Conference North club replacing Ted Stocker who stepped down to ill-health.
Not happy about losing over £35k a season following the down-sizing of City Reserves, and a drop in attendances following their move to Liberty Way, Boro want to become a possible feeder club for the Sky Blues.
It is something which will not go down well with Nuneaton supporters who have become fiercely anti-Coventry over the last few years and needed a large police presence for a friendly to open Liberty Way to prevent any trouble from breaking out.
Nor will it go down well with sections of the City supporters who have shunned Liberty Way when the reserves have played there.
A spokesman for Nuneaton said that talks were in an early stage but rumours abound that Nuneaton could be interested interested in taking over City's Academy.
As yet, there is no news as to whether the Sky Blues will be speaking to the rest of the clubs in Coventry and Warwickshire about forging closer links with them as well.
