Referee Graham Laws and Coventry City manager Iain Dowie have been talking about the decision to abandon City's game at Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.
Said Tyne & Wear based Mr Laws: "It was not a difficult call to start the match. I'd warmed up at 2.20pm with a ball and there were no complaints. "Whilst it was not ideal,I saw no reason not to start the game.
"I started getting complaints after about fifteen to twenty minutes that the conditions were becoming dangerous and I was not happy running round myself.
I did not take the decision lightly to abandon the game and consulted with my assistants and both managers."
Iain Dowie said: "We started well but it became a lottery. "It was disappointing for the fans and the players are frustrated.
"This was the worst I've seen the Hillsborough pitch and the ball started to run less and less. "It was the right decision by the referee and Brian (Laws) and I concured with his decision."
