There were plenty of shocks in the Coventry Charity Football Cup Second Round on Saturday.
2012 winners Christ The King were beaten 3-2 at home by Hawkesmill Sports whilst 2011 winners Coventry Copsewood went down to a 2-1 defeat at Midland Combination Division One side Alvis.
Alvis of the Midland Combination First Division (captained by former Sky Blue Patrick Suffo) edged out their Premier Division rivals 2-1. Alvis keeper Karl Roach saved a Craig Civzelis penalty on the stroke of halftime to keep the score at 0-0 going into the break. In the second half two goals from Calvin Thompson put Alvis 2-0 up but Copsewood quickly pulled a goal back ensuring a close tense affair continued until the finish.
Two more shocks saw Dunlop beat Midland Combination Premier Division side and last year's cup finalist Racing Club Warwick 3-1 and Coventry Alliance side Brooklands Jaguar beat Midland Combination Henley Forest 4-3 on penalties after the match finshed 3-3 after ninety minute and 4-4 after 120 minutes.
Folly Lane won 8-0 at a Whitnash Town side who had two players sent off inside the first fifteen minutes, The Bell AEI Rugby won 4-2 at Woodlands and Bolehall Swifts were too good for Jet Blades beating them 4-0.
In the First Round, Southam United were put through to the Second Round after Highway Coundon were unable to field a team. Lee Knibbs' side will now play Brinklow for the right to meet Brooklands Jaguar in Round 3
