Power Happy With A Point

Swindon Town's Lee Power said that this is where his team's season starts after they came from two goals down to snatch a 2-2 draw against Coventry City

“I’ve always been positive and I’ve always seen the light (at the end of the tunnel), but I think today is the day where our season started,” Power told members of the local press in the wake of the game.

“Even if I came in here and we’ve been beaten 2-0, I think today is the first-time we’ve been 2-0 down and the supporters have felt that we deserved something or we could get something out of the game.

“It is the first time this season that we’ve played and passed the ball the Swindon way, as I call it.

“We’ve still got people to come back, we’ve still got a lot of work to do to get anywhere near where we were last season and we’re still in a vulnerable position, which doesn’t help.

“All the lads know the season starts now.

“We dominated the game for 70 minutes. Don’t get me wrong, these (Coventry) are a proper team and I think Coventry will be one of the strongest teams this season.

“They are a fantastic football team and not many teams come down here and pass the ball like they did – it was a good game of football.

“But we held our own.

“When we made the substitutions to try and win the game, they didn’t backfire on us, but very quickly we found ourselves 1-0 down.

“The goalie (Lawrence Vigouroux) saves the penalty and leaves the ball on the line – little things like that you think are going to go against you.

“The lads could have folded and we could have been beaten three or four nil, but the lads kept their heads down, kept passing the ball, didn’t resort to long, diagonal balls, kept passing, kept passing and it was a fantastic goal from Ben Gladwin.

“And then Nicky Ajose holds his nerve and gets us a deserved point.

“I think they both looked right from where I was,” added Power.

“I decided to stay upstairs. Me and Luke (Williams) spoke and you get a better view from upstairs, and they both looked penalties to me.

“I’ve got no qualms with the one given against us and I wouldn’t thought Tony (Mowbray, Coventry Boss) would have had any complaints with the penalty given against them.”
