Coventry City manager Steven Pressley was full of his praise for his very young side which won 1-0 at Wycombe Wanderers in a JPT First Round tie.
The City support at Adams Park sang "1-0 To The Under Nines" as City started the game with seven Academy products and finished the game which was settled by a 66th minute goal from Josh McQuioid with nine.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph and Steven Pressley told Alan Poole: : “That must be a record for the club I would think and coming here and getting a result with such a young squad – 11 of the 15 came up through the Academy – is an outstanding effort. I’m really proud of them.
“We’ve still got a long way to go and in terms of the fluency of our football we weren’t at our best tonight, although that’s credit to Wycombe who pressed us very hard. I said to the group before the game that football is ultimately about winning and that’s particularly important in a cup competition which we have a realistic chance of winning.
“The young lads stood up to the physical aspects of the game really well, especially when we were under a lot of aerial threat in the second half.
“Not a vintage performance but that’s five games without a defeat now and it gives us the momentum and the confidence to take into Friday’s return to the Ricoh.
“Josh McQuoid scored his third goal of the season which is a good return at this stage of the season and Danny Pugh earned his third assist which is particularly impressive as he’s missed a number of matches. It was a terrific delivery – that’s the sort of quality he has when he gets into those areas.”
