Coventry City manager Steven Pressley is looking to take things forward with a meeting of all of his backroom staff today.
Pressley will listen to the analysis from the likes of Fitness Coach Pete Tierney, who had the players fitter last season than they had been for some years and analyst Paul Travis as well as coaches Neil Macfarlane, Ian Foster and Steve Ogrizovic.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Pressley said: "We have a season review today where we’ll all come together and have our say on the season past and look at areas where we need to improve all aspects of the club moving forward.
“It will be quite an open discussion between the medical staff, sports science and football analysts – everyone really apart from the players – and it will be open and frank between us all, and we’ll work towards areas of improvement from that.
“At the end of the season you have a period where everyone can relax and get away for a bit and have time to reflect on things and then look at areas to improve in terms of everything around the football club for next season,” said the manager, who prides himself on producing one of the fittest teams in the division, and is renowned for insisting on some of the most intense training sessions in the business that came as a shock to the system of several of City’s loan players last season.
“It was interesting, even right down to the fitness programme where we introduced a six-week cycle and days off during the season; these are all things we’ve reflected on by analysing the data.
“And we’ve put together a pretty comprehensive study on that and on how we can physically improve in certain areas, so we’re going to have a discussion on that.
“The fitness side of football and medical department is really important for us because there were certain areas where we felt there was a little bit of fatigue in the players and there are always areas where you can look to improve and often that’s by trial and error on certain things.
“We will use the study and all the data along with being able to continuously check on and update the progress of other clubs and how they are going about it.
“Things like the way we analyse the opposition ahead of games and our own performances, we’re always looking to be better.
"We want to be better in every aspect and the great thing is everyone will speak their mind and hopefully we’ll find ways to take things forward for next season.”
