Pressley Praise For City Back Four

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has praised his young back four for their performance during the 2-0 victory at Walsall.

Aaron Phillips came in as a very late replacement for the ill Andy Webster and took his place in his back four with Jordan Willis, Ryan Haynes and loanee Matt Pennington.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Pressley said about his defence: I would think that must be by far the youngest back four in the Football League today – “a 21-year-old right-back, two 20-year-old centre-backs and a 19-year-old left-back – but they were absolutely magnificent.

“Joe Royle tells me that Matty Pennington’s best position is going to be at centre-half and I think he showed that today.

“Jordan Willis came to see me in the week because he was concerned he wasn’t in the first team and I told him to be patient; you never know when you’re going to get a chance and today he grabbed his with both hands.

“And I have to make a special mention of Aaron because he’s barely had half a training session but he came in at the last minute and showed just what a talent he is. Sadly he’s suffered a recurrence of his knee injury but he put the team first today and that’s the attitude that any manager wants to see.”
