Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has thanked the City support.
27,306 actually got into the Ricoh Arena to see the 1-0 win against Gillingham, whilst many thousands were unable to get tickets or get to Coventry for the match and were forced to watch the game on television or listen to the radio.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole, Steven Pressley said: “I’d like to pay them all a big, big thank-you – I am exceptionally proud to be the manager of their football club.
“It’s been 14 months of difficulties but in the end it was worth it when you come back to this and see how much this club means to the supporters and the city. It was a wonderful occasion and I’m so happy for everybody connected with the club.
“When you get occasions like this they often don’t follow the script and you end up with egg on your face – but the group handled the situation brilliantly.
“After we scored I thought we’d go on to win comfortably but, credit to Gillingham, they’re a good, well-organised side who made us work really hard for the points.“Our difficulty last season was keeping clean sheets; any side that want success have to do that and we’ve definitely improved in that respect.”
