Pressley To Change His Defence

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley is to change his defence for Wednesday night's JPT Southern Section Area Semi-Final at Bristol City.

The City boss has Arron Martin cup-tied and is expected to bring back Jordan Willis to play at centre half, keeping Reda Johnson in a left back role.

Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner:  “I’m tempted to put Willis in at centre-back. Before we attained the services of Matthew we were going to put Jim O’Brien in at right-back, and then we thought about shifting Aaron Marton across. But if we moved Aaron then we’d have had to shift Webster and Reda across and drop Haynes back, so you end up making four changes for one position.

“But Willis might just slot into Aaron Martin’s position because he did really well with Webster against Plymouth.

“Jordan is slightly ahead because he’s only been out two weeks,” revealed Pressley, who believes his side have benefited from having more physical full-backs.

“I think Reda has settled into left-back very well. I’m pleased with the two clean sheets we’ve had while he’s played there but it’s not just the back four, we work very hard as a collective unit and the shape of the team has been very good because we have restricted teams to very few chances. I think Reda has adapted very well.

“He played most of his football there for Sheffield Wednesday so he’s very accustomed to playing there and Webster and Martin have formed a very good partnership. Defenders take confidence from clean sheets but I think the group take confidence from that because there was a period in the season where we were losing on average two goals a game, and it’s very difficult to win games when you’re doing that.

“It’s about getting a balance now between keeping clean sheets and scoring goals, and we had a good balance at Colchester. We defended very well against Walsall although I still felt we should have won the game.”
