Rumour after rumour has whizzed round the internet and elsewhere, following the story today by the CT that Ray Ranson is to leave and Ken Dullieu is taking over.
This press relevation, which has not seen a statement from the club so far, has provoked rumours of the club going into administration, something which is highly unlikely if the rumoured deals done to ensure that alleged deeds of the past stay hidden in the past are valid under the SISU regime.
The appointment of PR man John Clarke the other day as Vice President has done nothing to calm fears about the long-term future of the club.
He’s not a Joe Elliott or Gary Hoffman but the average City supporter know more about the former Chrysler Manager and Coventry News Editor, than SISU head honcho Onyenyechinaeduanaghaefuuzo Nnatuwereugo Igwe, or Ken Dulieu, who was involved in Southampton when they were in trouble or Canadian entrepreneur Leonard Brody.
SISU might be ok in the business world, but they have failed to realise that in the world of football, a football club needs regular investment in order to progress and with when no players coming in during the last transfer window and none on loan when the loan transfer window closed earlier today, it is not surprising that we have seen some supporters on Facebook and Twitter calling for them to go and threats of demonstrations.
SISU may have loaned £24m in to Sky Blue Sport & Leisure and paid a few bills but it does not take a genius to work out that the club needed in the region of £75m in order to get all the creditors out of the club's hair for good, the Alan Higgs share of ACL bought and money available in every transfer window to give supporters hope and increase match and season ticket sales.
We only need to look up the M69 to see how Leicester have been transformed with new owners and new investment and if the likes of Mr Brody, Dullieu and co, can bring in a) either new investment for a decent manager with a proven man-management record and funds for players who can get us out of this division or b) new people who can give Coventry City FC a stable long term future then I think we would all settle for that.
As for Ray Ranson, he knew what he was getting into and knew who he was dealing with from the start and if he feels undermined by the likes of Mr Igwe, who has been involved with SISU before they got involved with CCFC and his other SISU cohorts, then he should have chosen more carefully whom he gets to back his schemes.
Yes, Mr Ranson has improved the running of the club and cut costs in certain areas but from what I have seen they were purely common sense decisions, which any of us could have seen and made.
Granted running a football club is not easy and some very difficult decisions do have to be made and we, as supporters do not know every decision they have made and why they have made it, but if people can be found by the new guys on the board, who have the financial clout to give Coventry City FC long term stability and hope, then having those on board who can offer more than Mr Ranson, currently offers, has to be best for the club, its creditors, employees and supporters.
