Peter Reid has blasted City supporters following his depaarture from Highfield Road.
He said: "The Chairman mentioned the crowd and I think it's part of a manager's job to accept criticism. The crowd are entitled to their own reaction to games. I think the problem is the effect that has on the players - genuinely, I think these players are better than where they are in the league at the moment.
"I think we have been unlucky in games and I think with me out of the way, it will give everyone a boost. I don't mean by that that I'm not a good manager - I just think there's that much pressure built up that they're not expressing themselves at the moment.
"There are a few other circumstances in there - you can't let the fans have mob rule. Even at Sunderland and Leeds, we had fans booing because that's the reaction they give to bad results.
There are a few things which have happened but the main thing is that I felt the players needed a boost from somewhere and hopefully they'll get it from this.
"But on record, I'd like to say that Mike McGinnity does a good job at the Club in terms of keeping it going and that he has genuinely helped me as much as he can. The job is a lot harder than I envisaged. It's very difficult and I regret that I couldn't do a better job for the Football Club because it deserves that going into a new stadium.
"Taking all things into consideration, I think this is best for both parties. I wish the Club all the best for the future and these situations are always sad.
It's down to the Chairman that I took the job in the first place and I wish Coventry City every success in the near future, which is the most important time.
"I'd be a liar to say that I haven't thought about things over the last month or so but after generally having a chat with the Chairman, we both decided it was better for the sake of the Club that this was the best decision.
"The bottom line is all about results. I'm paid to get results and you can't escape that. As much as you look at the games against Crewe, Derby County, Stoke City where I feel we deserve three points, we didn't get it. If we had those eight or nine points, you look at the league table with a different perspective. But we didn't get results in those games.
"I have to say the players have given me everything. They have done everything they can for me. The only thing I can say is that we didn't score enough goals and without sounding obvious, we conceded too many. I think it's a lack of confidence and it's really disappointing for myself but results are the bottom line. Somehow you have to take the pressure off the players and the best way to do that is to get behind the team and the Football Club in these difficult times. I encourage everyone to get behind the club.
"The players have been outstanding and they are a good bunch. I think they will win football matches and climb up the league."
