Richard Wood has been speaking to about his ambition at Coventry City and his debut game against Chrystal Palace at The Ricoh on Saturday.
Wood told reporters, "I know it will be difficult because I have already played Palace at their place this season when we drew 0-0 and it was just a battle," They threw everything at us and were very direct and physical and I think it is going to be a scrappy game."
"We dealt with everything that day and it benefited me that it was such a physical game because that's what I like. I am not fussed about passing and stuff. As soon as I get the ball I pass it off and that's my job done, so as long as we keep clean sheets".
"We just need to make sure we play our football when we get it and get forward as quick as possible and get our goals".
Wood spoke of the need to gel quickly with the other player, especially another recent signing Leon Barnett, "I do realise there have been a few goals going in at the other end and that's obviously why I've been brought in, to shore up the back, and hopefully I can do that. I know a little bit about Leon, where he has played and what sort of a player he is, but we have got to get to know each other quickly."
"But it is going to be fine. I have adjusted to new players coming in at Wednesday before so it is nothing new. It is important to strike up a good partnership and as a team and a back four as well."
"We have to gel quickly. The lads have been together for a while and me and Leon have just come in. I have been at Sheffield Wednesday all my life and it is awkward for me to come in to a completely new back four."
"But we had a little game yesterday and everything was fine and the communication is good between us, and hopefully it will get better and stronger."
The 24 year old defender spoke about his attacking options as well, ".... I will be up for corners all the time and I like to step in as well and win the ball and move forward and hopefully I can get plenty of goals. I didn't get many at Wednesday and that's one target I am looking at, attacking in the opposition box."
Wood finished by revealing his desire to become Coventry City captain one day, "The manager (Brian Laws) believed in me enough to make me captain at Sheffield and hopefully I have got leadership skills necessary. I would love to be captain here one day. I don't say I am loud or anything, I just try to lead by example."
