The controversial former Leeds United chairman Peter Ridsdale has revealed he tried to buy Coventry City twelve months ago, but he says he has nothing to do with the current Gary Hoffman led take over bid.
Mr Ridsdale is currently in charge at Plymouth Argyle and is the former chairman of Leeds United Barnsley and Cardiff City.
The 59 year old Ridsdale claimed, “I was involved in trying to buy Coventry City 12 months ago but I have not been in touch with anyone since. I was asked to facilitate a meeting between a UK-based group interested in buying the club and then chairman Ray Ranson.”
Gary Hoffman confirmed Mr Ridsdale's claim and said to the CT: “He has not been party to any discussions I have had in the last six or 12 months.”
Peter Ridsdale has had a colourful career in football and was chairman at Leeds when the club underwent tremendous financial troubles and a rapid descent from the Premier League to League One in just three seasons and with debts amounting to around £103m.
After his move to Cardiff, he was forced to apologise to their fans for misleading them into believing season ticket revenues were being spent on pl;ayers when in fact they were spent on debt reduction and interest payments.
