Robins Blames Mistakes For Defeat At Colchester

Coventry City Manager Mark Robins was not happy with the defensive mistakes which saw the Sky Blues lose 2-1 at Colchester United.

City trailed to a first half penalty before Tom Bayliss smashed home to get the Sky Blues level. However, with two minutes left, a cross was not cut out and Mandron headed home to send City to a defeat.

Speaking to the media after the loss, Mark Robins said; “It was hard to take; certainly the first half was hard to take because we never got started,. “We were poor and it took us to get to half time, having given them a goal.

" We know our away form hasn’t been great so we wanted to stay in the game as much as we could until we could get a foothold in it, and we tried to do that. We weathered their fast start and then we gave them a penalty.

“It was just a tug on the player’s arm and he’s gone down and then you are 1-0 down.

" We got in at half time when there were a few home truths spoken and I was pleased with the second half. But it’s that stage of the season when we have to see things out.

“When we were in the ascendancy we looked like we were going to go on and win the game, so I was pleased with that but knowing we have to defend properly to the end. And then we allow the cross into the box and to get first contact, and that’s the thing.

It’s just weak, weak mentally and didn’t deal with it properly so I was really disappointed with the second goal.

"We have got players out with injuries, no excuses, and we have players who are making stupid mistakes, and I mean ridiculous mistakes and they don’t know if they are going to pass it or launch it, and we don’t play like that.

"The players know exactly how we play, through the midfield when we can and utilise other outlets in other areas of the pitch better.

“It was much, much better in the second half when they were on the back foot but then we didn’t stick the knife in and finish them off, and allowed them the opportunity to go and win the game. And I don’t think they deserved to, and that’s the truth."
