Coventry City manager Mark Robins said he was disappointed that not everyone ran themselves into the ground during the 2-0 defeat at Stevenage this afternoon.
Robins told Andy Turner of the Coventry Telegraph: “First and foremost you want them to run themselves into the ground and they have tried to do that but haven’t quite managed it in every department.
“That was a disappointment for me, so that will be topped up in the week with the game against Derby and then against West Brom, which we’ll look forward to and then that’s it.
“We have a couple of games to get tuned in and it has been tough because we have got some regulars that are away and not been able to work with yet.
“We lost Jordan Willis on the first day but he’s due to join in on Monday. Liam Kelly has a calf injury and still not ready and we’ve obviously got Tom Bayliss and Dujon Sterling away with England Under-19s. So there are at least four there who would normally be involved.”
“It was a physical game and I think one or two think they are going to get through this and there were some young lads in there again from the Academy making their first strides really.
“We have got injuries and people who are not quite ready, which makes a difference for us, but I am just trying to give everyone a chance so I can have a look at them and see if they can stake a claim.
“This was a bigger test than we have had yet and we were probably better in the second half than we were in the first.
“We were unfortunate not to score. The keeper made a really good save and we were a bit more of a threat, but it’s about fitness.”
