Robins not afraid to make drastic changes

Mark Robins has proved to the fans, staff and owners of the Coventry City that he is not afraid to do things his way. Within a couple of weeks of becoming the eleventh manager in as many years he has already told one player he is surplus to requirements and put Kevin Malaga on the transfer list.

The task Robins has at Coventry is not an enviable one and will prove far from easy. He has to find a way of boosting the players’ confidence and morale, he has to win the fans over and mould a side that can win more games than it loses as he aims to lead his side up the table and challenging for promotion. He has to do all this and more on a shoestring budget.

With one player already transfer listed, Robins has said he will not hesitate to replace more players if he believes they are not up to the job.

Malaga only joined the club on a free transfer after being released by French side Nice in the summer and signed a three year contract but Robins has decided he is surplus to requirement and that any fee and funds freed up by his transfer can be better used by the club. The French defender has only made two starts, against Sheffield United and Bury, both when Andy Thorn was in charge and both of which ended in draws.

Robins hasn’t mentioned any other names that he may be thinking about releasing, but he did say that he will be looking at other options in a bid to freshen things up a bit.

Robins told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “There will be others as well who we will look at and see if we can get them games and just freshen things up slightly.

“We will make Kevin available for a permanent transfer and see if we can help him on his way. There are other people who are ahead of him at the moment and it may free some funds up for me to do something else.”
