Mark Robins has said that his Coventry City side have to take it on the chin after the Sky Blues went out of the FA Cup at the First Round stage with a 3-2 defeat at Walsall.
Robins told the media after the game which saw City two goals down at one point thanks to some poor defending and more poor defending for the third goal:
“We think back to what we had last year with a brilliant Cup run and this year we wanted the same.
“But we have got to take it on the chin I’m afraid. The worse thing that could happen has happened really because we wanted to maintain our momentum that we have built up over a period of time.
“But if we think if we can come here and think we can not work as hard and think when we have got the ball as much as we have been doing or using the ball as well as we have been...
“You have to credit Walsall because they worked ever so hard, but that’s no consolation because we wanted to improve our performance and get the win.
At 2-2 I expected them to go on but we could have been 4-0 up before they scored and then we have given them the goals.
“We created enough chances to put them to bed before they started to take part in the game, but to give away a stupid goal like we did just put them in the ascendancy, and then we gave them the second goal.
“We were too stretched and I thought Brandon Mason struggled in the second half when he didn’t get close enough to his man, looked a bit hesitant on the ball and that comes from being out the length of time he’s been out," he said.
“And if that’s anything to go by the lads who have been out have got realise the level they need to be at to get in the team.
“It’s no good to me if they are below the levels that we have built up and come to expect.
“I also appreciate that they have to be playing to get up to the levels, so it’s a bit of swings and roundabouts.
“I am just disappointed with the overall performance but we have to accept it and move on.”
