Coventry City manager Mark Robins has rightly slated the performance of his side at Carlisle United in the 1-0 defeat on Sunday.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Robins said: “We never got the performance I wanted and expected.
"It’s difficult to pinpoint what went wrong because I don’t think one player can be satisfied with his contribution.
“We lost our shape, there was o cohesion and that wasn’t what I was looking for. But losing is part of football – you don’t accept
it but you understand it, and with two home games this week we’ve got an opportunity to put things right.
“I suppose there might have been a bit of fatigue after Thursday’s cup match against Preston but that’s no real excuse because we’re fit enough now. We need to be better all round and show a lot more thought.”
Spekaing about Matt Robson's goal with just over a minute of the match gone, Robins said: “It was a sloppy goal because Jordan Clarke didn’t jump with his man and make it as difficult for him as possible.
“It was massively disappointing, reminiscent of the goal that won it for them at ours, and it put us on the back foot from the start.
“We had a gilt-edged chance to equalise right away when John Fleck shot wide and we had a number of other opportunities; on another day we could have won it, but we always seemed to be making the wrong decisions, shooting from 25 or 30 yards rather than moving the ball.
“There was no lack of effort and the fact that we got six bookings to their one suggests there was no lack of commitment although I do find that a puzzling statistic. But we’ve got to play with a bit more thought.
“That was one of our poorest performances in some time. We’ve been poor today, lost a game I expected to win, but it’s history now. I’ve got to take that on the chin, move on and be ready for a very tough game against Tranmere on Wednesday.
“It’ll test our character, but that’s true every time you step out on the pitch.”
