Robins: We Were Very Good

Birthday boy Mark Robins said that Coventry City were very good as they won their second consecutive home game with a 3-2 win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Robins said to BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "What Wycombe do, they do effectively.

"I think the ball has got a headache. Akinfenwa is one of the strongest footballers playing today and he is very difficult to deal with, but we had to make sure that we were ready for the aerial bombardment.

"Gareth Ainsworth set his stall out. He had three very experiences players upfront in Akinfenwa, Mackail-Smith and Nathan Tyson, who has a lot of pace himself.

"I thought we were very good. We moved the ball well. After two minutes we could have easily gone ahead and ended up taking the lead with a sublime shot that Doyle has been working on in training,” he said with a laugh.

“McNulty was a live wire today. The second goal was a brilliant ball from Vincenti that put their right-back on the back-foot. It was a very well taken goal and it put us in a commanding position.

“We rushed a little to try and get a third goal and helped them back into it. Losing Vincenti before that goal, in the manner that he went off, gave us a little uneasiness. That was a turning point and it ended up with the ball in the back of the net right on half-time.

“After half-time we knew that we had to start brightly, but they ended up getting a penalty that was very soft. I thought our penalty then was an evener, it was just as soft, but I was pleased to get it.

“Then we drew the second half one-all, and that was enough for us.

“For us, at this time of year, it is a terrific result that puts us in good spirits and a good position ahead of boxing day.”
