Rotherham United are rumoured to be one of a number of clubs interested in former Coventry City keeper Scott Shearer.
The keeper has decided not to accept the one year deal offered to him by Crawley Town following their promotion to League One, a year after coming into the Football League.
Shearer told This Is Sussex: "I felt I had done enough to get a better deal than what was offered. "I've got a family to think about and the deal they offered me didn't suit me. I felt they thought less of me than what I think of myself.
"I felt I had a pretty solid season, it was just very bad luck to get injured when I did.
"I'm excited and I'm devastated at the same time. Football moves on pretty quickly.
"I'm devastated to leave because I think it has been the most successful part of my career by far.
"I got promoted at Wycombe, but to get back-to-back promotions when the pressure was on us to get promotion, it was pretty special."
