In the Championship today, there were wins for Birmingham City,Colchester United,Sunderland,Ipswich, Preston,West Brom and Luton who beat Crystal Palace 2-1 with James Scowcroft notching his third of the season for The Eagles.

Julian Joachim scored twice for Darlington in a 3-1 win at Peterborough.

Locally, Nuneaton Borough won their first game of the season with a 1-0 win at home to Lancaster City.

Their neighbours Hinckley United suffered a tragedy in their match at Harrogate Town this afternoon when 27 year old Matt Gadsby died in hospital after collapsing on the Wetherby Road pitch. The match was abandoned. Covsupport send their condolences to Matts's family and friends.

In the Southern League, Rugby Town lost 3-0 at Clevedon Town and in the Midland Division of that league, Bedworth United lost 6-2 at Bishops Cleeve.

Two of our sides entered the FA Vase 1st Round Qualifying. Stratford Town beat Leicester based Highfield Rangers 3-1 but Southam United were beaten 2-1 at Teversal.

Leamington kept up their hopes of promotion from the Midland Alliance with a 4-2 win at Tipton Town and Atherstone Town beat Biddulp Victoria 3-1 at Sheepy Road.

Coventry Sphinx kept up their bid for promotion from the Midland Combination Premier Division with a 1-0 home victory over Walsall Wood.

Coventry Copsewood were held 1-1 at home by Heath Hayes, Nuneaton Griff won 3-2 at Feckenham. Massey Ferguson earned their second win of the season beating Brereton Social 3-1 at Banner Lane whilst Alveston's trip up the M6 to Staffordshire brought them a 3-1 victory.

Division One scores saw Kenilworth Town held 2-2 at home to West Midlands Police, Stockingford beat the University of Birmingham 2-0 but Leamington Hibernian lost 3-0 at home to Newhall United.

n Division Two,Coventry Sphinx Reserves drew 1-1 at Continental Star Res with the same score for Warwick Town's game at Feckenham Reserves.

Paddy Hardies Kenilworth Wardens first team lost their opening game of the season away at Folly Lane Res 3-0. Wardens Reserves were beaten 3-2 away at Heart.
