City may have struggled to find the net on more than one occasion against Burnley but up the road at St Andrews, Gary McSheffrey scored all three goals for Birmingham City in a 3-1 win over Preston North End. The Coventry supporter in the 32nd and 40th minutes before completing his hat-trick with a late penalty.

There were Championship wins for Colchester,Derby,Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth,Southend, Stoke,Sunderland and Leicester.

Locally, Nuneaton Borough won 3-0 in a Conference North Fixture at Alfreton Town. Rugby Town lost 3-1 at Northwood Town but Bedworth United won 3-1 at Stourbridge with goals from Kinder,Williams and Spacey.

Both our local sides are through to the next round of the FA Vase. Ben Mackey scored a late goal for Leamington FC as they won 1-0 at Croydon Ath who had a penalty saved by Jason Pearse. Also picking up £1,200 in prize money and a place in Monday's draw where Stratford Town who won 2-1 at home to Colliers Wood after extra-time.

One of the favourites for the FA Vase were FC United of Manchester who took on Quorn managed by former Coventry Sphinx boss Marcus Law and with former Sky Blues Robert Betts and Adam Layfield in the side. Quorn from the Midland Alliance ended up winning 3-2 after extra time.

In the Midland Alliance, Atherstone lost 1-0 at home to Westfields. Results from a division lower saw Coventry Copsewood win 2-1 at Alveston with Massey's game postponed.

In the Coventry Charity Cup, Coventry Sphinx are through after a 3-0 victory at Southam United. Goals from Chris Harris,Wayne Pulford and an own goal saw Paul Charnley's side through. They are joined in the Quarter Finals by Nuneaton Griff who beat Stockton 1-0.

In the Bedworth Nursing Cup Third Round, Coventry Sphinx Reserves beat Collycroft 5-1.
