Wednesday 15th April will see a football trial day for the 2015-16 BTEC Football Education Programme.
The Football Education programme is a partnership between Sky Blues in the Community and Henley College, which is now in its third year. The programme offers students aged 16-19 the chance to study BTEC qualifications in Sport and Active Recreation at levels 1, 2 and 3.
Alongside the BTEC qualification, students obtain a Sports Coach UK Sports Leaders award and an FA Level One coaching badge. Students are also given the opportunity to gain practical voluntary – and potentially paid employment – with Sky Blues in the Community, coaching at schools and on holiday activities across Coventry and Warwickshire.
The course provides an opportunity to benefit from daily football coaching with up to 10 hours of training and games taking place each week with Sky Blues in the Community coaches.
The squad represent the sky Blues in the PL/FL Midlands and South West colleges’ league, featuring 21 other professional club college programmes including Birmingham City, Bournemouth, Plymouth Argyle, Cheltenham Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Burton Albion and Blackpool.
The trials will take place at Henley College on Wednesday 15th April, starting at 10am. An introduction on the education element of the programme will be given – highlighting the opportunities beyond the BTEC programme (including Degree courses in association with De Montfort University), as well as trial matches for budding players.
Community Director David Busst said “The Education Programme is now really well established, with the quality of our squad – and the league – getting better every year.
“We are in discussions with the Coventry City Academy about some exciting developments this season to bring Football Education programme more closely aligned with the academy to benefit everyone.”
If you would like to register to attend the trial days, please contact Pete Glackin at Henley College on 024 76 626305 or email pglackin@henley-cov.ac.uk
