Sky Blues in the Community are officially launching the new Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund with a kit amnesty, taking place in the build up to the Sky Blues first home league fixture with Shrewsbury Town.
The Kit Amnesty is a request for individuals, families or local football and sports teams to donate any old kit or equipment for children or adults that is still in a good, usable condition – with a view to that being passed on to people who can benefit from it most.
The community team are interested in individual football shirts or sporty clothing, old team kits – as well as equipment such as footballs, football boots or trainers. All donations will be passed on through a range of Coventry City and Sky Blues in the Community partners, including local and international charities, social services, and organisations that support homeless people and those living in sheltered accommodation.
People can donate their old kit at any time, but the new Sky Blues in the Community van – donated by VW Listers Van Centre in Coventry – will be parked next to the Jimmy Hill statue at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday 13th August between 2.00pm – 3.00pm, just before the Sky Bet League One first home fixture against Shrewsbury Town.
If you wish to donate some kit or equipment but will not be attending the game, you can contact the SBitC team on 024 7678 6371 or email sbitc@ccfc.co.uk to make alternative arrangements.
The Kit Amnesty is the first initiative that comes under the new Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund, which will see the community team and football club raise funding to support working with children and adults with disabilities; disadvantaged children and young people; providing funding to support activities in the Sky Blues Family Zone on CCFC match days, and a small grant scheme for local not-for-profit organisations to apply to.
Further details of fundraising initiatives through the Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund will be coming out soon. More details on the fund itself can be found here
