Coventry City's new assistant manager Richard Shaw want Gary McSheffrey to mentor the younger players in the squad much like Andy Thorn did when Shaw was a young player at Crystal Palace.
Speaking to the CT, Shaw said, “I have known Gary since he came through the youth team so it is nice to see a friendly face and I’m looking forward to catching up with him.
“Sheffs has had a terrific career and is a really good player and it will be nice to have him around the place and now he has gone from being a young lad to a senior player we’re going to be leaning on Gary quite heavily in terms of bonding the side together and being a good influence on the younger lads, like we were when Gary was coming through at 16 or 17.
“It was a similar situation when I was breaking through at Crystal Palace when I played with Andy Thorn for four or five years. We had a good side and Thorny was very much part of that and very good player,
