Coventry City supporters will be going to Sheffield United next season after they were beaten in the League One Play-Off Final on penalties at Wembley Stadium.
Former Coventry City old boy Michael Doyle captained a Sheffield United side which played in a tight game of few chances.
Former City loanee Peter Clarke did go twice for Huddersfield Town but there were no goal in ninety minutes and the game, watched by a crowd of 52,100, went into extra time.
Still the deadlock was broken so the game went to penalties. Huddersfield had their first two saved. United had one saved by Smithies in for the injured Ian Bennett and then Collins scored his spot kick. Huddersfield had one saved as did United.
Peter Clarke did convert his penalty whilst Taylor hit the post. Arnold scored to put Huddersfield 2-1 up and then Porter scored to send it into sudden death.
Jordan Rhodes converted penalty number six. Up stepped Quinn who also scored. Both sides scored again. Callum Woods scored as did Michael Doyle. Jack Hunt scored as did O'Halloran to make 4-4. That became 5-5. Alex Smithies beating his opposing number and then Steve Simonson blasted over to send Huddersfield Town into the Championship.
