The former Coventry City striker has been told by Alex McLeish, who last night watched City's 3-2 win against Sheffield United, that he can leave St Andrews.
McSheffrey joined Birmingham in a £2.235m cash deal three years ago. It was a deal which saw a number of add-ons and City did get a payment when Birmingham City were promoted to the Premier League at the end of the 2006/2007 season. It is not known whether City would get anything more if he were to be sold.
