The striker was signed by Iain Dowie and although he was joint top scorer for City Reserves in their one season in the Pontins League, the former Charlton youngster never made City's first team.
Simmonds was loaned to SPL side Kilmarnock in the season just gone and scored once in four starts and eighteen substitute appearances before hernia and groin operations prematurely ended his season.
