Simpson was man of the match in the game versus Brasov and was the dangerman at Livingston on Tuesday night.
Speaking to the CT,Simpson said: "This is probably been one of the best pre-seasons I've ever had and I have been delighted with the way I have played.
"Obviously towards the end of last season I struggled to make the squad and I wanted to come here this season and show the new gaffer that I can play at this level, especially because I knew he was going to sign new strikers, so I knew I had to step up to the plate and give myself a chance of being in the starting lineup.
"At the start of last season I was new to this level and had a lot to learn. I seemed to learn pretty quickly and got in the side, but then I had my injury which hampered me a bit.
"When I came back from that it maybe took me a bit longer to recover than I thought it would and things probably got the better of me and I think my confidence started to go.
"The lack of goals didn't help my confidence but also playing on the right was obviously new to me so not only did I have to step up to this level, but I had to learn a new position as well.
"But I was severely lacking in confidence towards the end but it is a fresh start this season and hopefully I can continue this sort of form.
"I am here to challenge the players that the manager has brought in and I am giving it a fair go at the moment. "We will have to see come the start of the season but I am sure I will get my chance, and when it comes around I have to make sure I take it.
"It is great that we have got Freddy and Clinton here, and hopefully he will sign, because they are both international footballers and you can't get a better level of player to learn from.
"Leon Best is also a top player and I learn from him all the time, too, so I feel I am developing my game every day and hopefully I can keep progressing, get in the team and start scoring some goals."
