Signed from Cambridge United,a year ago, the former Loughborough student, struggled to get a place in City's first before getting injured which kept him out until Christmas and still managed to make thirty four appearances.
"Strikers are judged by goals and I only got two last season which probably counts against me," said Simpson, who wants more goals in the new season.
"I have had my first year in the Championship and this year I want to kick on and establish myself as a goalscorer at this level.
"I made 34 appearances for Coventry last season and I am really chuffed to have done that but I still have a lot to prove and improve on.
"I am fit and raring to go. I have been doing the fitness programme. I was given at the end of the season and that involves a lot of work in the gym.
"I am looking forward to the preseason which is only three weeks away now. It will be nice to see all the lads again and I am sure it is going to be really hard work.
"It will be the manager's first full season and we will all be wanting to make sure we are in his plans. I am sure he will want a vast improvement and no doubt he will sit down with us and let us know what he expects from us."
"I was really pleased with the way I played in those two games against Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday when I felt I did myself a lot of credit in the manager's eyes. I knew I had to perform well and hopefully I showed that I can play up front at this level. I just wish that I had got a goal or two.
"Now I have got to look to the pre-season games when I will hopefully get a chance to play up front and get a few goals to keep me in the manager's thoughts."
