Coventry City are down to sixteenth in the Championship table after their 1-0 home defeat to Swansea City on Tuesday night.
City are sixteen points off a play-off place but with only fourteen matches remaining are a point ahead of 17th placed Bristol City who won 3-1 at Watford and 18th placed Doncaster Rovers who earned a 1-1 draw at Norwich City.
Derby County in 19th are three points behind City on 36 points after losing 1-0 at home to Hull City with Middlesbrough also on 36 points but they have played one game less.
Bottom side Preston drew 2-2 at Nottingham Forest whilst Micky Adams Sheffield United slipped to second bottom after a 3-2 defeat at Scunthorpe United. Fourth from bottom Crystal Palace lost 1-0 at Portsmouth who moved up to 15th.
Swansea's win moved them up to second in the table behind leaders QPR who beat Ipswich 2-0. Cardiff City are third thanks to a 2-0 home win over Leicester City, whom the Sky Blues travel to on Saturday.
Elsewhere, sixth placed Leeds were held 3-3 by Barnsley and Reading beat Millwall 2-1
Former Sky Blue Craig Reid played for 61 minutes of Stevenage's 3-1 win at Port Vale.
