At the Hawthorns tonight West Brom needed a win to secure automatic promotion whilst the Saints needed a win to ease the pressure at the foot of the table. For the Coventry support tonight was one where they cheered on the Baggies but it looked to have turned sour when after 76 minutes Southampton took the lead with Adam Lallana springing the offside trap to score.
However the Baggies piled on the pressure and after missing a number of chances they pulled level in the 84th minute through a Chris Brunt shot.
So with Southampton being 2 pooints behind the Sky Blues with a more inferior goal difference, tonights result means that the Sky Blues go into the final day of the season knowing that they need at least a point to secure their place in the Championship next season.
The foot of the table looks like this:
18. Blackpool P45 53 points Gd -5
19. Coventry P45 53 points Gd -9
20. Sheff Weds P45 52 points Gd -4
21. Leicester P45 51 points Gd -3
22. Southampton P45 51 points Gd -17
