Founded in 1904 by members of the Shaddongate United AFC. The Cumbrians played in the second division of the Lancashire Combination and played at Devonshire Park before moving to their current home at Brunton Park in 1909. Promoted to the Football League in 1928, they had one season in the top flight before dropping down and eventually being relegated to the Conference in 2004/05. They were promoted via the Conference Play-Offs at the first attempt and now play in League One.

Their caretaker manager is former Coventry City youngster Greg Abbott and previous managers include Bill Shankley.

THE LAST TIME
This will be the 11th game between the two sides. City have won six times with two draws. The last game at Brunton Park was a friendly in 1983. City's league game there was a 0-0 draw in 1975.

The referee is J.Moss with the assistants P.Graham and G.Wallace. Mr Simpson is the fourth official.

TRAVEL
Away fans are usually allocated the North End of the Cumberland Building Society Stand, a fairly new all-seated covered stand, which has food and drink outlets in the concourse underneath.

Coach prices are £24 adults, £21 junior/senior citizen, £19 adult season ticket holder and £12 concession season ticket holder, JSB member and disabled £10. Coaches leave the Arena at 1.30pm

BY CAR
Brunton Park is within easy reach of the M6. Leave the motorway at Junction 43 and take the first exit off the roundabout. The Blue roof of the Cumberland Building Society Stand can be seen on the right hand side nearly from the roundabout. Keep going straight ahead along Warwick Road (A69). After passing through the third set of traffic lights the club shop (Blues Store) and Hughie McIlmoyle statue marks the main entrance to the ground.
Car parking in this area is strictly limited to pass holders, visiting directors (by prior arrangement) and the away team bus.

Car Parking
Main Car Park (home and away supporters) - Drive on past the ground and for the next set of traffic lights get into the right hand lane. Turn right at the lights then, after 100 yards, turn right into St Aidans Road. At the end of this road keep right, through the narrows and over the hump, into the main car park. There is also street parking around the ground but this is likely to be restricted once disc parking is introduced.

Coaches other than the Official team coach: From Junction 43 take the first exit off the roundabout. At the third set of traffic lights turn right. Stewards will allow the bus through behind the East Stand for passengers to disembark at the away turnstiles, the bus will then be directed to the car park and allowed back after the game to pick up passengers from the away end. All coaches, other than the official team coach, are charged £10.

By Rail - Carlisle Citadel Station is served by the West Coast Main line, with the station situated in the middle of Carlisle. From the station, walk straight ahead cross Botchergate and walk along the Crescent until you see the entrance to Warwick Road on the right, next to Bar Suede. Brunton Park is about a fifteen minute walk from the entrance to Warwick Road.

Disabled Facilities
Wheel chair users are allocated places at the front of the main stand. Tickets for wheelchair users are priced £1 with the maximum of one carer free. Tickets can be bought in advance from main reception or, on match days, from the East Stand ticket office.

Supporters with visual difficulties may wish to bring a portable radio Full match commentary is available from Radio Cumbria on 95.6 FM and 75.6 AM frequencies.. There is disabled car parking in the main car park. Visitors requiring further information should ring main reception on (01228) 526237

GOING FOR A DRINK?
Carlisle Rugby Club are recommended in The Football & Real Ale Guide 2006-07 and have at least two real ales on. There is a large screen tv and the club house is open from 6pm.
Directions to the Rugby club are by exiting the M6 at junction 43 taking the Carlisle turn, continue straight ahead along Warwick road after approx 3/4 mile you will see Carlisle United football ground on the right and a short distance after the ground to the right is a turn into the Rugby club.
