Slade: We Have To Be Effective For 95 Minutes

Coventry City Manager Russell Slade said his side have to be effective for 95 minutes as the Sky Blues went down to a 2-1 defeat at Bury.

Slade had the City fans calling for his head, offering him to call him a taxi or inviting him and Tim Fisher for discussions of the physical kind as City went two goal down.

The players had been urged to show some passion by most of the 209 supporters and did put up a better performance in the second half after Slade changed his side which had four forwards and four central defenders starting.

They pulled a goal back through a 64th minute Stuart Beavon header and had chances through Reilly and Varnam but it was not enough yet again and the Sky Blues are now fourteen points adrift of safety.

"In the first period our purpose wasn’t great and, again, we made a couple of errors at the back and they had a couple of opportunities and they buried them,” said Slade to the BBC Coventry &
Warwickshire.

" Going forward we created a couple of chances but not enough intent. But that all changed in the second period when we showed a lot more intensity and got on top.

“We changed the shape, yep, but it’s not about shapes and systems.

“We have tried every one possible from the start of the season as a football club. We did change it and it injected a bit more life into us and we managed to get ourselves back in the game and were probably unfortunate not to get anything out of it.

We changed it tonight and it looked quite effective but we have to be effective for 95 minutes, not just 45 or 20 minutes and that’s been the problem from day one where we have not dominated games or taken our chances and maybe made the odd mistake at the back and that’s cost us.

“There was more urgency and intent to get forward, cause them more problems and get on the front foot. We got a really good goal, a really smart goal but couldn’t build on it"
