Many have asked the question when exactly were Coventry City formed. Well, in another extensive research project, Lionel Bird has discovered that Coventry City will be able to celebrate their 125th anniversary on August 13th.
This was the date that Singers FC was formed by Willie Stanley and George Bowers. The club played at Rowell's Field and was managed from 1883-1885 by Stanley, who hailed from Wolverhampton.
The club was formed in the Lord Aylesford Inn in Aylesford Street and progressed successfully through the Birmingham League until on August 12th 1898, the club changed it's name to Coventry City FC.
City Board member Joe Elliott has pledged to mark the anniversary and the club will have the numbers 125 on the badge which will appear on both the new home and away shirts.
