A social club which had a resurrgence out of Coventry City moving to the Ricoh Arena now faces possible closure due to the Sky Blues moving away.
The Hen Lane Social Club in Beacon Road was adopted by some City supporters when the Sky Blues moved to the Ricoh Arena in August 2005. However, now with the prospect of City never playing at the Ricoh Arena again, the club faces possible closure.
Club Steward Phill Bunn told the Coventry Telegraph's Simon Gilbert: “If the club moves away it will take a minimum of £20,000 a year turnover from us overnight. In the current climate, when businesses are struggling, that would have major repercussions for any pub or club.
“I could point out ten other businesses in the area that will be badly affected if the club moves and I’m not sure the people involved gauge that.
“The owners are not in it for the long run, they are in it for the short term to make a profit, but they do not realise they are playing with people’s lives.
“You can’t wipe £20,000 off your turnover and expect everything to be rosy; it would affect the amount of people we employ.
“We need people coming through the door and those 23 games a year is a massive part of our turnover. It would be another nail in the coffin of a business like ours.”
